Counselling

I offer individual counselling for adult clients, available short term or longer term depending on your needs. I integrate different approaches and techniques to best suit each individual client. I primarily draw upon humanistic, mindful and solution focused approaches in my counselling practice. This means I offer a non-judgemental space for you to pause and talk things through to explore, accept and understand your own feelings. I can teach techniques for mindful well-being, and help you to find solutions based on your experiences.

Examples of issues that I can work with include:

Stress and anxiety

Depression/ low mood

Bereavement, grief, loss and transition

Work-related issues, career issues and redundancy

Post traumatic stress

Abuse and bullying

Finding meaning and purpose

Self acceptance, self esteem and confidence building

Relationship skills and interpersonal awareness

Dreams and imagery

Psychological effects of discrimination

Film therapy

Difficulties with body image and eating

LGBTQ issues

Unusual experiences such as voice hearing

Neurodivergence

I can work with a variety of issues so if you are unsure please get in touch.

In addition to my passion for counselling and well-being I have a background in film, media and cultural studies. This has led me to develop methods in film therapy in my work as a counsellor and a teacher in counsellor education and I have published work on this as a counselling academic. I feel it is important to look at the whole person in context, acknowledging the social, cultural, health and economic challenges people face and how this can affect psychological well-being. Life is multi-faceted, I take a bio-psycho-social approach in my work that is informed by research from social science, neuroscience and psychology. My practice is trauma-informed and I have extensive experience of working with post traumatic stress.

I hold professional membership of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy. My counsellor training meets BACP standards for membership and I work within the BACP ethical framework for counselling practice.
